Is hypnosis safe?
Yes, it is completely safe. You are fully aware and in control the whole time. You cannot get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis, nor can you be made to do anything you don’t want to do. You can take your mind off whatever you were thinking of by opening your eyes. This is the normal day-dream feeling you have everyday so there’s nothing new here! There are no side effects, apart from feeling very rested and refreshed after a session.
This is nothing at all like stage hypnosis!
Can I be hypnotised?
This is probably my favourite frequently asked questions about hypnosis! And it’s YES! Anyone who wants to can be guided into this pleasant, relaxed state, just by following some simple instructions. Everyone is naturally in hypnosis – ‘trance state’ – while lost in a good book, daydreaming, deciding on tonight’s dinner menu or sitting in a classroom.
(People with learning difficulties may find it takes a little longer to focus, and those with severe depression or mental illness are best treated by their psychiatrists).
I am highly skilled in helping clients achieve this wonderful yet familiar mind state.
How will I know I’m in hypnosis?
My clients report feeling deeply relaxed, almost as if they just couldn’t move a muscle. (Although they could if they really wanted to!) They find it enjoyable, pleasant and are fully aware of the experience.
Will I be in control and know what is happening?
Yes, absolutely. You do not lose consciousness or ‘go under’. In fact you are working hard maintaining the state of mind and using your imagination.
Will my deepest secrets be revealed?
Hypnotherapy is a respectful treatment that is all about helping you feel well, confident and happy. You are fully in control of what is shared and discussed in this clinical environment. Hypno-analysis allows safe, introspective analysis that you need not discuss if you prefer not to.
What does Self-hypnosis mean?
‘When you give someone a fish you give them a meal; when you give them a fishing rod you give them independence.’
Self-hypnosis is all about learning to put your mind to it and be in control at any time you choose. This is an easily learned skill taught during your treatment. You can find out how to access and use the power of your mind to lose track of time and alter perceptions of body feelings, and to mentally rehearse good outcomes. It is a most effective pain relief during childbirth and delivery, in easing the discomfort of gynae procedures and injections during IVF, at the dentist and perhaps even for leg waxing!
