One Vital Piece Of the Fertility Equation You’re Probably Missing

confident woman dressed in pink

I work with women like you who are focused, capable, and used to getting results. Yet, there’s one vital piece of the fertility equation you’re probably still missing out on. Yes I hear you say you’re the ones who make things happen in your career, home, or relationships. When you decide to try for a baby, you don’t leave it to chance. You cover it all, do your research, track, supplement, test.  And yet when pregnancy doesn’t happen easily or doesn’t stick everything changes.

Suddenly, everything feels uncertain. And with each passing cycle, the quiet fear begins to build:
“What if it’s never going to work for me?”

It’s especially hard when there’s no obvious reason. When tests look “fine,” but time keeps ticking. When another friend announces a pregnancy. When your sister starts trying for baby number three. And you pray, “Please, let it happen before my next birthday… before I have to change jobs… before everyone knows something’s wrong.”

I see it all the time: women who research and do absolutely everything they can think of physically, but are still stuck.

And the missing piece? More often than not, it’s their nervous system.

We talk a lot about hormones, egg quality, and test results. But not enough about the emotional toll of trying to conceive  or what happens to the body when the stress, grief, and fear of not achieving pregnancy and facing setbacks go unprocessed.

Fertility trauma isn’t just  big, devastating losses. It’s the small cumulative shocks. Another period arriving. The disappointing blood test. The friend who made that careless comment. The miscarriage you were told to “just get over.” The IVF cycle you pinned your hopes on and that failed without any explanation. It’s subtle, layered, and persistent.

And it lives on in your body.

That’s why you can’t journal your way out of it. You can’t positive-think your way through it. This kind of trauma is stored in the nervous system  and it’s why you might feel emotionally numb, looking for the next fix, always doing, wired-but-tired, or like you’re holding your breath between periods, scans, or appointments.

You’re not a failure. You’re bracing. It’s what humans are hard-wired to do.

That’s where EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) comes in. It’s a powerful, brief tool that helps your brain process what’s been stuck.

No long-winded therapy sessions. No need to rehash every painful detail. Just gentle, structured work to clear the backlog so your body and mind can stop scanning for danger and start responding to possibility.

And the science backs this up.

One of the largest studies to date, by Farren et al. (2020), found that 29% of women who experienced miscarriage met criteria for PTSD within a month, with 24% showing moderate to severe anxiety. These symptoms didn’t just fade. Nine months later, 17% were still experiencing significant distress.

In another review (Cumming et al., 2015), women with unresolved reproductive trauma  had elevated anxiety and PTSD symptoms well into future pregnancies. That lingering sense of dread? It’s not “just in your head.” It’s how your body is responding to unresolved grief and fear.

And it matters. Because these symptoms don’t just affect how you feel  they affect how you  make decisions, find answers, cope with treatment,

mind your relationship and prep for pregnancy.

What I offer isn’t mindset fluff. It’s targeted trauma-informed support that gets results.

I see clients after years of trying, emotionally threadbare, ready to give up, or simply dialing it in. . With just a couple of EMDR sessions, they sleep better and mood improves. . They reconnect with their partner.

A recent email I got while on holiday sums what I hear from clients all the time:

‘Hi Helena

I just want to give you a quick update. I had my egg retrieval this morning and they got 16 eggs. To say I’m so pleased is an understatement but I know it’s still a waiting game.

I really just want to send you a note to say thank you so much for the work you have done with me to date. To say I was so calm going in today and for all my scans. I’d nearly go as far as saying I was indifferent.  Especially today, the nurses and consultant were like ‘are you sure you have no questions and all is ok’!!

The difference you have made for me personally is invaluable. There were a couple of things I encountered the past week that would have been triggering previously and to say I didn’t bat an eyelid at them this time round.’

Many more tell me, “It feels like a weight off me and  I’m back to myself.”

This work does NOT mean you’re giving up on conceiving strategy!  It means you’re getting your whole self aligned before taking your next step. Whether that’s another IVF round, trying naturally, or simply finding peace with where you are, you get to choose it with clarity.

So if you’ve been stuck in your head, stuck in the cycle, or just stuck  I invite you to  ask yourself:

What if your body isn’t the problem?
What if it’s your nervous system asking for help?

If that resonates, you don’t have to stay in that place. EMDR and my rapid reset  are designed to move you forward swiftly.
