Future Fertility Show

Excitement is building since I attended the media launch of the Future Fertility Show in Dublin. This a ground breaking event set to redefine the fertility landscape. With this event March 2-3, 2024, on the horizon, I’m thrilled to share insights, support, and inspiration for those on their unique fertility journeys, ahead of speaking at the event.

Future Fertility Show media launch with Frances Fitzgerald

What is the future of fertility in Ireland looking like? With the rollout of publicly funded fertility treatment introduced in July 2023 we look to increased access for all.  And we can look to changes in key areas of  fertility education in schools, promoting and safeguarding fertility for young individuals, and the importance of including men in fertility discussions. As a fertility coach, I’m delighted to be speaking on the main stage to offer insights into this critical subject.

As Future Fertility Show organiser Nikki Dwyer says: ” An issue facing 1 in 4 heterosexual couples, countless singletons and many in the LGBTQIA community, hopefully we can bring the same passion to educate and empower as we’ve brought to Future Health and Beauty doing what we do best…. Weeding out the cowboys selling snake oil and false promises and gather the best experts under one roof!”

 Advancements in Reproductive Technology

Ireland has been at the forefront of remarkable advancements in reproductive technology, with continued progress on the horizon. Huge leaps in AI-assisted IVF looks set to improve pregnancy outcomes for couples. These innovations are reshaping the fertility landscape, offering newfound hope to couples facing challenges on their journey to parenthood.

In recent years, research and developments in assisted reproductive techniques, including in vitro fertilization (IVF and ICSI) and egg freezing, have been nothing short of ground breaking. These techniques are not only becoming more accessible but also increasingly effective.

The ability to select embryos more effectively with AI  to give the highest chances of pregnancy success, as highlighted in a recent article from ScienceDaily, has improved the outcomes of IVF treatments.

This means that couples are now more likely to achieve their dream of becoming parents. These advancements are setting the stage for a brighter fertility future in Ireland.

 Fertility Education in Schools

One of the most promising developments in Ireland’s fertility landscape is the inclusion of fertility education in schools. This forward-thinking approach is empowering younger individuals with knowledge about their reproductive health, family planning options, and the factors that can impact fertility.

Comprehensive fertility education is no longer a luxury but a necessity. And it needs to continue the focus away from a fear-mongering model that prioritised a ‘sex leads to pregnancy, disease and death’ model.

The research outlined in an article from the Irish Examiner underscores the importance of educating the younger generation about their reproductive health. (see below)

By providing accurate information early on, we can equip them with the tools to make informed decisions about their fertility in the future.

Families are Changing Shape

As more same sex couples are choosing to grow their families access to fertility healthcare is pivotal to

Promoting and Protecting Fertility for Young Women and Men

Another critical aspect of the future of fertility in Ireland is the promotion and protection of fertility for young women and men. Research, such as that found in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, emphasizes that lifestyle choices, environmental factors, and access to healthcare play pivotal roles in preserving fertility.

As a fertility coach, I cannot stress enough the importance of early fertility preservation strategies. Encouraging young individuals to adopt healthy lifestyles, manage stress, and seek timely medical advice when necessary is paramount. By doing so, we can help safeguard their fertility and increase their chances of successful family planning in the future.

Inclusion of Men in Fertility Discussions

In the evolving landscape of fertility care, I find that one crucial element is often overlooked—the inclusion of men in fertility discussions. Recent research published in the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics highlights the significance of addressing male factor infertility. We need to remember that the devasting effects of fertility issues, failed IVF cycles and miscarriage are shared between a couple.

Men are an integral part of the fertility equation, and their reproductive health matters just as much as that of women. It’s encouraging to see that more attention is being given to male fertility issues. As a fertility coach, I wholeheartedly believe that involving men in discussions and decisions regarding fertility treatments is essential for achieving the best possible outcomes.

 Fertility Wellbeing

Fertility isn’t solely about medical procedures—it’s a holistic journey encompassing physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. Recent research published in the Journal of Psychosomatic Obstetrics & Gynecology underscores the importance of fertility wellbeing.

Stress management, mental health support, and emotional resilience are integral components of fertility care. As a fertility coach, I place great emphasis on supporting individuals and couples not only through medical treatments but also by providing tools and techniques to enhance their overall wellbeing. When the mind and body are in harmony, fertility outcomes tend to be more positive.

Fertility and Pregnancy Loss Policies at Work

For many individuals and couples, the workplace is a significant part of their lives. Therefore, supportive workplace policies related to fertility and pregnancy loss are crucial. A study by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine sheds light on the need for such policies.

Employees facing fertility challenges or coping with pregnancy loss deserve understanding and accommodations. As a fertility coach, I advocate for workplaces to adopt policies that recognize the emotional and physical toll of these experiences. By creating a supportive work environment, we can reduce the stress that individuals and couples may face during their fertility journeys.

 Rise in Secondary Infertility

A concerning trend we’re observing is the increase in secondary infertility—the inability to conceive or carry a pregnancy to term after a previous successful pregnancy. Recent data from the National Center for Biotechnology Information highlights this phenomenon.

Secondary infertility can be particularly challenging, as couples may have already experienced the joy of parenthood and are eager to extend their families. As a fertility coach, I recognize the importance of providing support tailored to the unique circumstances of individuals and couples facing secondary infertility. It’s essential to address this growing issue and offer guidance on the best paths forward.

 Prioritising people

In the realm of future fertility healthcare, the efficacy of medical restorative reproductive treatment cannot be understated. This is a holistic medical approach that looks to treat any pathologies precluding pregnancy.

It holds a pivotal role in restoring and optimizing fertility by addressing underlying pathologies and hormonal imbalances.

I believe that it’s  essential to prioritize good medicine as a first-line approach, as it not only offers a more holistic and cost-effective solution but also has the potential to resolve fertility issues without the need for high-tech interventions like assisted reproduction technologies.

By focusing on the root causes of fertility challenges, we can empower individuals and couples to achieve their dream of parenthood while minimizing the need for more invasive treatments.

Why do we so badly need a Future Fertility Show?

“The fertility journey is a minefield in Ireland. So we’ve created an event to meet experts and clinics in real life, rather than relying on online research & social accounts. Get trustworthy advice and answers to the questions you have, all in one place.
Learn from the experiences of medical consultants, fertility specialists and leading experts on the Main Stage, while real families discuss their own fertility journeys in intimate workshops. Our exhibition floor hosts Irish & overseas clinics, advice groups, legal experts, nutritional & lifestyle advisors, holistic therapists and more. Leave feeling clear and fully informed about whatever path you wish to take.”

Future fertility in Ireland is hallmarked by exciting advancements in reproductive technology, and needs to be underpinned by comprehensive fertility education, with a focus on promoting and safeguarding fertility for all.

Recognizing the importance of same-sex and solo parents and mens role in the fertility equation, prioritizing fertility wellbeing, and implementing supportive workplace policies are essential steps in this journey.

As a fertility coach, my mission is to empower individuals and couples with the knowledge and support they need to navigate this ever-evolving landscape and achieve their dreams of parenthood.
