Weight Loss is Key to Fertility Boosting AMH

Are you fed up hearing that weight loss is key to fertility boosting? New research tells us why it works. etihad-towers-289975_640Dr Sobia Hassan, infertility specialist at the Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi notes that “Diminished ovarian reserve – or low levels of AMH (anti mullein hormone ) a precursor to premature menopause, is a cause of infertility in 2 out of 10 women. Speaking of the results of a 10-year longitudinal study she said, “This deficiency affects women between 32-40 years of age.It is prevalent among women in both primary and secondary infertility problems.”

She continued, “Obese women of late reproductive age, 35-49 years old, have significantly low AMH at 65%, compared to normal-weight women of similar age.”

Weight Loss Improves Fertility

According to Dr Hassan supplementation with DHEA – dihydroepiandesterone – benefits women with low AMH and improves the immune system and bone density.

She added that women suffering from PCOS – Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome – gain a marked improvement in their AMH  – simply by shedding weight. Studies found that those who followed a 6-month weight loss – and maintenance programme – fared best.

Swiss Pharma company, Roche Diagnostics Middle East débuted it’s first fully automated AMH test at the Dubai 2015 Ob-Gyn Congress.

According to the company,”30% of female infertility problems are due to diminished ovarian reserve – DOR. AMH is a direct serum marker of functional ovarian reserve and plays an important role in assessing ovarian reserve levels and therefore, the capacity to provide eggs for fertilization. The average female age at first birth has been on a steady surge over the past few decades in many parts of the world. The delay is causing couples to attempt having children when fertility is already in regression.”
